The Purpose of Life

“The Purpose of Life is a Life of Purpose” by an American author, Robert Byrne 1930-2016.

Who, of you in reading land, long to know what your purpose is? I do! Let’s unpack this topic.

The definition of purpose from Dictionary.com states:
Noun: the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used etc. It is an intended or desired result, end, aim or goal. It is a determination, resoluteness

Verb: pur.posed, pur.pos.ing: Meaning to set as an aim, intention or goal for oneself. To intend or design or to have a purpose.

I may have a purpose for clean life with a goal to have a clean house. I learn how to clean a house, straighten, dusting, cleaning kitchen-bath, vacuum and mopping the floors. Once I know how to clean, I set up a cleaning schedule. Maybe I clean everything every day or one room a day. Maybe I clean the whole house once a week. Or maybe I do a weekly clean and spot clean in between.

I don’t know about you, but I have a deep longing to “know my purpose”. “Why am I here?” What am I supposed to do?” And many more permutations.

Many of us want to know “THE THING!” that I’m supposed to do! Right?! We can wing off in dreams of being President of the country or CEO of a company. It’s easy to slip into something really BIG. The outcome of the really “BIG THING” can bring fear and telling ourselves “I can’t do that” or being driven to the “BIG THING.”

Most of us will not be called to being President or a CEO. The reality is that we can’t have 8 billion presidents or CEO’s. So here we are, walking in our morsel of time. Why am I here? Does it make a difference if I’m not here? (ah, yes!)

If we could boil all the folderal that occurs on earth, what would we have?
Let’s get rid of positions, jobs, titles, houses, cars, things, arrogance, ego what would we have here to do or be?

I see the ultimate purpose is love and unity. Love is a high vibration. Unity doesn’t mean that we are all the same. Unity is all the different aspects of humanity rowing in the same direction – up as in raising the vibration of humanity. If we can embody love for ourselves and others, then the thing we are doing is purposeful.

Cleaning is still cleaning. But there is such a difference when done with love. How about grocery shopping, preparing food from love. You can send that love back to all people and events that brought the food to you. The employee who helped you get your food to the car, the cashier, truck driver, distribution staff, farmer, the land, the sun and rain. You can send love forward in all your activities and connections you were able to do because you ate the food.

Every one of us counts. It is for us to remember to be love and share love. How we choose to do that is up to us. Please, never sell yourself short. The fact that you are here means you have purpose. How you want to be purposeful is a different topic.

In your current state, working or not working, healthy or ill, in a relationship or not, be of love in the best way that you know how.

What if you don’t know how to be of love? We have all had things in life that told us we weren’t loveable; we weren’t good enough as so on. When undesired events happen in life, which they will, the tendency is to drop into some defensive position. These defense postures could be a fight, or clamming up (freeze), blaming, not being able to think or act. We all do it.

How do you get yourself out of the lower vibration? The lower vibrations of anger, hate, depression and others can feel like familiar, comfortable in a weird way. All of the lower vibrations has a feed back loop. Anger and adrenaline are in the same breath. You can get a “high” from adrenalin. That feels good so you do it again. Depression is a “poor me” energy. It is a way to suck energy from somebody else. That is a feedback loop and can keep you stuck.

The trick is to catch yourself in these lower vibrations. In the moment you catch yourself, you have the choice to make a move up.

To move up, move your emotions and thoughts towards gratitude. Have a gratitude list and pull it out. Think of something that you are grateful for or love. It can be a sunset, or loved one, or flower, a song anything that opens your heart. Then you sit with open heart in gratitude for a time. Five minutes is good. Ten minutes is better, and fifteen minutes is excellent.

HeartMath has an app where you can map your emotions. It has a scale of red, blue and green. The idea is to live in green. It is a very good feedback loop. First you learn how to get out of the red level. Then you learn what if feels like in the green level. Then you can start making a choice to move and stay in green.

I like this story. The purpose of coming to earth was to drain the swamp. We get here with great intentions. But the swamp is full of alligators. Everywhere you turn, an alligator is nipping at you. And we fight. We try to survive. We forgot to drain the swamp, if we did that the alligators would go away. Swamp is low level energy. Think of it as dark, dank, cold, feels bad. Draining of the swamp is bringing in love (high energy). Love raises all of us up. We can learn to live without the alligators.

I’m in! What about you?
